October is World Polio Day & October 24 is World Polio Day.
We had a very special polio program that included hearing from polio survivors, recognizing family of those who suffered polio, and hearing from District Chair Dr. Duane Wycoff about the origin of the Polio Plus program and its progress.  There are two countries still reporting cases--Afghanistan & Pakistan.  The world will be considered polio free when there are zero traces of polio in people or the environment for 3 continuous years.  An iron lung was on display--a special "thank you" to Bill Ballou for making it possible.  We are so close but we have to keep up the fight! District Governor Don Peterson presented three Paul Harris Fellow awards--Joe Cook, Dave Harris & Buzz Rumba.  For more information about the program, visit: http://www.theindependent.com/news/local/world-is-close-to-eliminating-polio/article_3b9397f2-71fd-11e5-8976-7fde5dd05dc4.html
