January 19, 2010 - GI Rotary Club votes to sponsor Shelter
Box to aid
Haiti
earthquake victims
In a unanimous vote, the Grand Island Rotary club voted on January 19
to send immediate assistance in the form of a Shelter Box to the
victims of the Haiti earthquake. The club voted to take the
needed funds from the Club's treasury, but agreed to pass the hat to
raise funds to cover the costs, over the next three meetings.
"The
need for the shelter box was immediate," said Club President Jim
Hruskoci, and "time was of the essence". Following the initial
vote, the
club proceeded to raise more than half of the needed funds by passing
the hat - then raised enough over the following 2 meetings to fund 2
1/2 shelter boxes. "Grand Island Rotary Club members are
unbelieveable,"
said Hruskoci. "They came through when the need was
there. Many Haitians are homeless right now, so the club
felt
this was the best we could do to provide immediate assistance." Highlights
